Description

The starting point of the excursion, despite being at high altitude, can be easily reached by train. From Ospizio Bernina you take

a wide and flat path that runs along the railway line along the White Lake. The glaciers of Piz d'Arlas, Piz Cambrena and Piz Caral stand majestic.

After passing the Lago Bianco the gaze is lost towards the south, along the Valposchiavo and up to the Bergamo Alps.

At Poz del Drago you leave the path for Alp Grüm and take the path on the left that like the stream that flanks it, descends steeply into the larch forest.

Here it is worth making a small detour to the Lagh da l'Ombra (1995 m), a beautiful alpine pond hidden among the trees. Calculate half an hour more than the time reported for the hike.

From the pond you go up, taking the path previously left and continue the descent along the Val da Pila, a narrow valley set in the quiet area for the wildlife of Campasc. Looking carefully towards the rocks above it can happen to see chamois moving between the rocks.

The comfortable path descends gently next to the Acqua da Pila stream. You pass under the imposing viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway, cross the village of Cavaglia and reach the station of the Rhaetian Railway.

Before resuming the train we recommend making a stop at the Glacier Garden to visit the extraordinary Marmitte dei Giganti and the new route through the Orrido di Cavaglia.
