Originally built as a farmhouse, Casa Besta was transformed into a noble residence in the 18th century by aristocratic families from Valtellina. Later acquired by the Municipality of Brusio, it served as the administrative headquarters for more than a century.
Since 2000 – following an extensive restoration project that also incorporated an adjacent rural building – Casa Besta has housed, among other things, the local museum.
The new exhibition, completed in 2026, explores rural life and traditional craftsmanship, highlighting the unique characteristics that developed in this border region: smuggling, wine trade, fruit and vegetable production, and border shops. The museum also houses a valuable collection of historical musical instruments.
